Great White Dorsal Riders club

There aren't too many people that have had the priviledge of riding on the dorsal fin of an adult Great White Shark. I had the chance a few weeks ago and took it.

I had to really work to gain the shark's trust before I could do this, and finally the animal was happy to drag me along without any protest. I'd been in the water with this individual for about half an hour, and had worked very quietly with the camera, getting the shark to swim closer and closer. I then began touching it lightly on the side and fin tips, just to get it used to the idea.

Finally, the big shark let me take a grip of the dorsal, and took my full weight for a few seconds without even batting an eyelid!

Some people are really against riding on wild animals, but I don't see this as being insulting to the animal at all. On the contrary, it shows the true calculating character of the Great White.

I'll try and publish a little video file of this event, so you can see the process for yourself.
