The Whale Waltz

I've spent the last ten days operating the Witsand area off Cape Infanta looking for whale activity.

The whale inevitably ends up finding us, as we can't go closer than 300 meters under power. So if the animal chooses to come and check us out then the game is on! Our best day was when I'd dropped Barry onto a shallow reef off Cape Infanta, and a lone female sidled up to him and wouldn't leave him alone! I couldn't go in and fetch him because of the 300m rule, so he was forced to spend 20 minutes under the watchful eye of an amorous whale!

Back with the Blacktips...

After weathering malaria from Brazil and high winds on the coast here, I finally got back into the sea. Despite the pumping north easter the Blacktips played ball and we had about 20 roaring around us at any given time.

The manners that these sharks have are amazing, despite 5 m vis we never felt threatened by any of them. On some occasions I thought I'd kicked a fellow diver, but on looking down I saw that I'd given the odd shark a boot!

Thanks to Mark Addison for the lift out to Aliwal, Blue Wilderness has this place taped!

Great White podcast.

I've just got some video from Charles Maxwell of me diving with the Great Whites at Dyer. This little mpg 4 podcast shows some nice two shots of me with a 3.5 White shark.
